Teaching Special Needs Children in Bali

Program Special Needs Learning Center

Program Special Needs was established for children both physically and mentally challenged who cannot receive a formal education because of their disability, and are not accepted by the regular schools for handicapped children. This program provides education to each child regardless of their condition, otherwise they would be home based full time.

We support 21 children with the following special needs:

3 children have cerebral palsy
4 children with down syndrome
3 teenagers with down syndrome
4 children are autistic
7 children with various other disabilities

Teaching Schedule Monday - Friday Daily lessons:

10.00 - 10.30 The local teacher takes the students through personal hygiene matters.
10.30 - 11.00 Commences Chi-kong class to assist the students with their concentration and flexibility.
11.00 - 1 1.15 Break, drink, healthy food snack
11.15 - 12.00 Learning in class environment
12.00 - 13.00 Lunch time
13.00 - 15.00 Learning in class environment, for the older children, a craft class is taught for the students to create handicrafts such as bracelets, necklaces, postcards, picture frames etc .

volunteering in bali with special needs children

Two local teachers and one teacher's aid are present at each class for the children with mental disabilities, it is the volunteer's role to assist the teacher. The volunteer is welcome to introduce new activities and teaching methods if applicable and appropriate. The volunteer is welcome to assist with cooking a preparing the lunchtime meals for the children.

Cooking commences at 10am, 12pm lunch is served to the children.
