Volunteer in Bali

Program Details

Our 100% run and owned Balinese Non-Profit organization has been developed with the assistance of volunteers from abroad. People from all over the world have volunteered with Yayasan Widya Sari since we where first establised in 2008. They have come to give their time and knowledge to help teach our underprivileged children of Bali. Our Bali volunteers chose to join us at Program By the Sea, Program Ubud Village and Program Special Needs as they felt secure in knowing that their funds went back into a program run solely by the Balinese people themselves from the Tianyar and Ubud region. No middle agents have profited from our volunteers or from the needs of our children.

The reason why many people choose to volunteer with us.

Here are some of the reasons our past volunteers have expressed why they chosen to volunteer with us at Yaysan Widya Sari:

Will volunteering really be an experience for you?

Volunteering in a third world country is a very challenging and often a confronting experience. Cultural differences will also require you to be more empathetic and understanding to others. The Balinese are in general are very gentle people and are aware of your feelings and emotions both good and bad, a smile here goes a very long way.

As you will be a new member to the village, your attention to those around you will be required at most times.

Many questions will be asked and they will want you to share your story, so be aware that alot of your time and energy will be shared. However, overtime you will understand that you have not only come to give of yourself but that you yourself will go home a changed person.

Through the challenges you will experience and your commitment to the program you will grow to understand how important you have been to the children’s confidence, learning and to the growth and development of our program.

If you are ready for such a challenge and would like to volunteer with us, we recommend volunteering for a period of four weeks or more to really emmerse yourself in this amazing culture and its people. We offer volunteering positions from 2 to 12 weeks. Placements for longer periods are also welcomed.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Sunday) – Arrival

Please ensure you arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali (DPS). A member of our local team will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall holding a name sign. From there, you will be driven directly to the volunteer accommodation, about a 3-hour drive.

Day 2 (Monday) – Orientation & Volunteering

After a good night’s rest and a delicious breakfast, you will have an orientation. During this session, we will cover all the do’s and don’ts while in Bali, including dress code and personal conduct. This is a great opportunity to meet other volunteers starting at the same time. The rest of the afternoon will be your first day of volunteering.
